Linux and other Unix-like OSes

Using Linux since: 1995
BeOS developer: 1997-2001
Home distro: Ubuntu/Debian/OpenWRT
Work distro: Ubuntu/Debian

I migrated to Linux in 1995, before the release of Windows 95. This was a Slackware install bundled with a book. I wound up reading most (if not all) of that book, which primarily contained open documentation. I migrated, completely ditching DOS. (I would later set up a dual-boot so I could do some contract work in DOS.)

Having been an avid 4DOS/NDOS (a command.com replacement) user, I was delighted with the features of BASH. I am more familiar with BASH than many people. I regularly read the info docs, which is convienant as they have added a number of features since I started using it back with version 1.14.

I worked at Be, Inc. and worked on the project creating a flat non-recursive GNU Make-based build system with full dependencies. I am more familiar with GNU Make than many people. I started delving in to Makefiles back in 1996 or so, long before many of the more useful features were added.

I currently work at Indiana University as a Linux Systems Administrator, and I absolutely positively love my job.

Personal

I've been enjoying free music from http://www.dogmazic.net/ (Much of it licensed under a Creative Commons license or similar.)

I've also been enjoying free audio books from http://www.librivox.org/ (public domain readings of primarily Gutenberg.org texts read by humans)
