Announcement

People of BLUG, these are indeed some exciting times!! A lot of stuff is going on and you can be a part of it all.

Jeff Welty of IU Computing for the Commons, who also attends our meetings quite often is in the starting stages of making a Documentary about Linux and Open Source in Bloomington. The idea is to interview a dozen or more people who are doing interesting things with Linux around Bloomington and work those interviews into an entertaining documentary that tells a story of Linux in a town, which could be anywhere in the world. He is trying to make the documentary as professional as possible and entertaining to a wider audience (beyond just showing in Bloomington). Tyra Robertson is able to get access to some professional video equipment like a Canon XL-1 video camera (high end stuff), some decent microphones and possibly lighting equipment. We are also going to try to produce the movie mostly using Linux based audio and video production software.

We are currently looking for people to interview and ideas for how to make it somewhat story like. If you would like to get involved in this project, you can either come to one of the BLUG or Linux SIG meetings and talk to him or write him at jtwelty (at) indiana (dot) edu. I'll be helping him out with the production over the next several months so you could email me as well.

To give you a few ideas as to what people we are looking for over the course of the production:

  • Video production and editing
  • Graphics artists
  • Interviewers
  • Camera people
  • Lighting
  • Makeup
  • Public Relations and fundraising
  • Some people to make a "Making of" documentary just for kicks

Jeff created a wiki page for the documentary here:

"Linux @ IU & Bloomington" is the working title for now. Anyone have a better name?

This is your chance to be a part of something big and get your name in the credits.
