  • Quality Surfaces, in Spencer, has installed a Linux server running vTiger CRM
  • Daniel Robbins, creator of the Gentoo Linux distribution, created Gentoo while attending Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana
  • Ian Murdock - creator of Debian (The Ian in Debian) lives in Indianapolis and went to Purdue when he created it.

Interesting ties between Bloomington and Linux/Open Source

  • The official GIMP version 1.0 CDs where distributed from Bloomington by Wilburworks. The guy lived over in Cascades on the north side of town.
  • The Prodigy Linux distribution hails from Indianapolis, but has several people working on it from Bloomington.
