- ADC (Advanced Designs Corporation) creates doppler radar systems that are based on Linux and used around the nation including WISH-TV 8 in Indianapolis. Go to their products page and click on software.

- Quality Surfaces, in Spencer, has installed a Linux server running vTiger CRM
- Daniel Robbins, creator of the Gentoo Linux distribution, created Gentoo while attending Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana
- Ian Murdock - creator of Debian (The Ian in Debian) lives in Indianapolis and went to Purdue when he created it.

Interesting ties between Bloomington and Linux/Open Source
- The official GIMP version 1.0 CDs where distributed from Bloomington by Wilburworks. The guy lived over in Cascades on the north side of town.
- The Prodigy Linux distribution hails from Indianapolis, but has several people working on it from Bloomington.
- One of the major archives of various Open Source Software is stored at IU (spout.ussg.indiana.edu).
- Chris Walker, a member of BLUG, is working on a Tibetan translation of the Gnome desktop and of Open Office.
- The Packet Sniffers, which is a world known tech show, is made in Bloomington. dosman is even on our BLUG mailing list and attended a few meetings.
