Synopsis

This meeting will include three presentations based a lot around programming and should be pretty interesting.

Ben Lipkowitz will be giving a presentation on an open source CNC machine control software project that he is working with: http://www.linuxcnc.org/ He is also working with another project that is concerned with building machine tools from scratch: http://fennetic.net/machines/

Shane Mueller, who wrote the code for the toolbar and the pause button for Audacity will be giving a presentation on Audacity and his work on the project.

Mark Krenz will be giving a presentation on my num-utils programs http://suso.suso.org/programs/num-utils/ and their usefulness within pipes on the command line.

Post meeting summary

Great meeting. Lots of people showed up.

  • Mark gave a presentation on [num-utils]. The random program from that package segfaulted when he tried to give it too big a range. :-(
  • Shane gave a great presentation on [Audacity] and showed us some cool new features that are in the CVS version that he is working on.
  • Ben gave a chalkboard presentation of what [CNC tooling] is and why it uses Linux and OSS. Unfortunately, his computer wouldn't boot completely, but he passed around some samples of molds he had made with the software.

We bought 3 pizzas for this meeting and only had 1 piece left at the end. So that worked well.
