Special Presentations @: 10am and 2pm
Attendance: 17 (10 new people)

Synopsis

Join BLUG and everyone else for a fun filled day of Linux gaming, demonstrations, food, door prizes and more. The event is partially sponsored by suso.org, who is providing the computers, food and prizes.

Prizes include retail editions of Unreal Tournament 2004 and Neverwinter Nights, both of which are natively playable under Linux. There will also probably be some hardware giveaways from the guys from The Packet Sniffers. And as always, we'll have copies of Linux CDs for people who want to get started.

This all day event will include two 45 minute big screen presentations demonstrating many of the games available for Linux, including a demonstration of Cedega Wine playing some Windows based games in Linux like Diablo 2 and Sim City 4. These presentations will be at 10am and 2pm.

There will be at least 4 computers running Gentoo Linux with modern 3D accelleration and big monitors for the best gaming experience. Several games will be played in network mode so that all the computers can play in the same game together. Besides the games, this is also a great oppurtunity to try out Linux and many applications.

Anyone who can bring their own Linux system is welcome to do so. Or if you don't want to bring your Linux system, but could instead bring a 17" or larger monitor, that would help too. Please let me know beforehand if you plan to bring something. Also, if any of you have a copy of Half Life 2 that you would be willing to bring for the Cedega demonstration, please let me know.

I'll be also announcing this event on http://www.happypenguin.org/ later today.

Summary

The gaming festival was a great success. Several people who were new to the group and about 8 who were new to Linux came by to play and see what can be done with our favorite operating system. There was pizza, drinks and a lot of fun. Many people stayed for several hours and we played a few network games against each other like UT2004.
